Toray has a long association with Indian sub-continent. In 1960, Toray opened its Bombay office and sold polyester filament for saris. In 1962, Toray built a weaving factory in Sri Lanka. Since 1985, Toray has actively licensed several new technologies to Indian companies. Under Toray’s Asia and Emerging Country Business Expansion (AE) Project, Toray is actively expanding its business in Asia and emerging countries. Consequently, in 2011, Toray established a Country Head Office in Gurgaon and a Sales & Marketing Office in Mumbai. In 2014, Toray established Toray Kusumgar Advanced Textile Pvt. Ltd. for weaving automotive airbags, to enhance automotive safety, with production commencing in 2016. In 2017, Toray Industries (India) Private Limited (successor entity for Country Head Office incorporated 2014) secured industrial land in Sricity, Andhra Pradesh State. Production of Engineering Plastics, Polypropylene Spun Bond and Air Filter started in 2019, 2020 and 2023 respectively.
